Hello,

i noticed that DF is constantly using 5% of my CPU, sometimes spiking to 10%. I have three screens and seperate wallpapers from google images(had same issue with other image provider). The cycle interval is 60 minutes.
Wondered if you could have a look (debug attached) and see what I could optimize.

Thank you in advance!

As an update: I am currently running DF Pro 9.4.8 and I am stil seeing high spikes in CPU usage from time to time. DF is often running close to 20% CPU. I stopped using BINS months ago. Any thoughts?

Moved these to a new thread since the other one was pretty old.

If you guys disable the DisplayFusion wallpaper feature, does that make any difference?

just disabled it and initially it doesn't seem to make any difference. I turned logging on again and will work a while with it and provide another log later on.

I have same issues as others with frequent CPU spikes that I believe are causing my mouse to jump around and have jerky behavior.

It seems to happen a lot when I try to highlight text in firefox. What can I provide in terms of debug logs to help diagnose the root cause?

Edit: I've done some further testing on my end and have tried running without Display Fusion running and I am still getting weird CPU spikes as described above although less frequently without Display Fusion running.

I think the CPU spikes/lags are also coming from the Windows Defender Anti Malware Service Executable (MsMpEng.exe) and negative effects seems to be amplified when both DF and Anti-Malware Service Executable are running concurrently.

Do others seeing the CPU spikes also see what I described in my edit?

On an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 my spikes for Display Fusion go up to around ~1%, and MsMpEng.exe is constantly spiking to around ~5% when the issue is at it's worst.

I had to uninstall due to this issue. Computer also become more and more sluggish over time. Still have to observe, but uninstall seems to have solved it at first sight...

Does the "General: Run as a Low Priority Process" option in the DisplayFusion Advanced Settings make any difference (higher or lower) in the CPU usage? Note that you need to restart DisplayFusion after changing that setting.

Another test for you guys to try if you still have DF installed: Can you disable all other applications from startup except for DF, reboot, then see if DF still runs up the CPU?

I will test running as low priority process first and then disabling hooks second and let you know if issue seems to be resolved.

I'm still not 100% certain the fault lies with with DisplayFusion on my end since I've seen the sluggish CPU spikes happen when I had the process killed. I think it may be a combination of Windows Defender realtime protection and DF potentially amplifying the impact of Windows Defender spikes somehow.

I found this thread after realizing that DF was using an average of 5% CPU with spike of 12%. trying waht was suggested here only the Low Priority setting had some effect, more or less halved the load. I have just the screensaver and wallpaper (15 mins update) enabled, is it really necessary this continous background load? Anything more to try?

What should we expect for CPU usage? I realize that may vary wildly but could help set expectations?

I'm running Windows 10 (1903), Intel i7-6600U, 16GB ram, SSD, 3 monitors and DF always runs between 7-10%, but can spike to over 25% for brief periods.

Following this thread, turning off application hooks made no discernable difference. Setting the low priority process and disabling alt-tab now reduced the idle CPU usage to 5-7%. It is still typically the highest CPU process when other applications are not actively being used.

This seems like a higher than needed system burden, making me evaluate if I'm getting sufficient value out of it.

CPU usage is something we're taking a close look at for the next version, something in the more recent versions is causing some system to use more CPU than neccesary. Hopefully we'll get it sorted out, 10+% is too high! :)

Thanks, using DF Pro 9.5 and I returned to this thread still having issues with high CPU. With running as low priority process and alt tab disabled, it was contiunously running at 6-10% (showing in Task Manager that it was using "moderate" power usage and causing my fan to run more frequently).

I re-enabled alt tab and that seemed to increase the CPU by a point or so to 7-11%.
I tested again with disabling application hooks, and this time that made a big difference, running 2-4%. However, with application hooks disabled I can't use the start menu on other monitors, can't alt tab on other monitors so it kind of feels useless to run like that.

Strangely, re-enabling application hooks, exiting and restarting DF, the CPU is now still at ~4%. And power usage low to very low in task manager.

After an hour or so, Win 10 became increasingly sluggish to the point of being unusable. Only reboot would fix. All sorts of maintenance and investigating came to one conclusion: DF was at fault. As soon as I disabled in task manager, all OK. I must disable application from my system to be productive. I hope developers will address this issue in upcomming versions. I will try again then with hope of improvement. Thanks.

On first hour of testing this seems to run great for me! CPU usage is showing 0.2-0.8% all the time for me now and not spiking like it had in the past.

I use a demo license key before purchasing this product. I am using ryzen 5 2600x and the memory is 32G but I installed this product and the system was very slow. I checked the computer's CPU and found that it occupies about 5-10%. This problem is so strange that I deleted the program and the system came back to normal.I installed the new beta version mentioned above, but it was a little better and I couldn't improve the problem. I have four monitors, and I'm considering buying a product because I want to create a profile that turns off one or two off, but I'm thinking about slowing down my system. Help.

I quickly tried and it might have improved a tiny bit (hard to tell after a long break from DF), but still occupies 8-10% permanently on my Core i7-7660U. I am running 3 screens. Intel integrated gpu. Had to uninstall again :(

attached the isolated CPU usage of just the DF-Process over around 10 mins while working mostly with browsers and outlook.

Did the folks still having high CPU usage after installing `DisplayFusionSetup-9.6-Beta1.exe` also set to `Run as a Low Priority Process` in Advanced settings? That was one other thing I did besides test the new Beta on my Ryzen 2700 setup that seemed to help.

It seems I've found a way to reproduce.
Turn on Windows Task Management -> click and drag the browser's title bar-> check cpu's share of displayfusion
Although the current three priorities for displayfusion are low, they soar to 5%.
I only want the dual monitor configuration, so all other features are off. I want to use only the dual monitor function!

I think I found another cause. If you run chrome + displayfusion + avast at the same time, avast's cpu occupies 10% and displayfusion takes 10% and slows down. This happens when you press the title bar and drag the window. I deleted avast and now it's monitoring a little better. Still, displayfusion accounts for 10% of the CPU.

I am having the same issue using v9.7. It uses 5-7% CPU at idle. I have turned off Applications hooks, Wallpaper and set as low priority.

Any other tricks to try?

It also appears that if I am connected to the 2 external monitors, I get the 6-8%, but if I undock and only use the laptop monitor, it goes down to 2-3% (which is still too high)

No issues, other than making the CPU and fan work harder (and therefore having less battery life)

It's most likely due to the polling for the taskbars. If you disable the DisplayFusion taskbars, does that make any difference?

Disabling taskbars results in CPU usage in the 1.8-5% range with an average in the upper 2% area.

Ok, thanks, that makes sense then! The taskbar polling definitely will add some CPU usage.

I have the same issue. DF Pro 9.7, Windows 10 Pro 2004 (19041). I only use DF for the superior multi-monitor taskbar. DF does not handle my wallpaper. Nothing. Taskbar only. Disabling the auto accent color seems to be the fix for another thread, but not I. It's disabled and DF is just ticking along at 3-6% cpu usage. This is annoying. I checked out the process threads and
clr.dll!LogHelp_LogAssert+0x6835
is constantly created and destroyed. What else can I try?

P.S. Sorry for the cross post from (https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/displayfusion-and-windows-10-1903-constant-cpu-usage/?ID=e706203b-0af1-4bc5-a336-b77f48be2253. This is the most recent thread, but the issues seem very similar, so I thought maybe the different threads could converge on a solution or something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This continues to be a problem for me. DF uses more CPU than any other background task (3-6%) keeping my fan on my laptop running. I've commented in other threads about some constant cycles based on Process Explorer.

I might try to use something like BES to lower CPU but it seems like DF should not be hogging the cycles so much.

The only solution I found was uninstalling DF and learning Windows 10's built-in dual-monitor taskbar, window snapping, and virtual desktops and all their respective keyboard shortcuts. The only feature I miss is pinning a window to always on top.

Thanks, @Jonathan -

I guess I should start to think that Microsoft is incorporating some of the benefits that DisplayFusion and 7TaskBar and OpenShell have introduced. For too long I've been underwhelmed by MS's UI attempts based on some strange focus-group-think. :)

I'm a recent adopter of DisplayFusion and the problem I have is that I'm running three screens (two external) off my laptop and my charger can't keep up. I'm using HDMI and VGA connectors (so DP doesn't take power) but I can't seem to keep up. This might not be a displayfusion issue at all but I do see display fusion having a 'High' power usage trend. Among applications it is the highest power user with my browser (with 16 tabs) coming up next in the 'Moderate' category and nothing else above low or very low.
